New AUDI A4 2017 review &
specification
The new A4 for sale now
at a Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim level with front
or all-wheel drive. Build a car here to see what trim level included,
or pilup in2016 and 2017 A4 here. All versions updated employs 2017 turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
engine, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic
transmission.
Fear not, fans of performance: Audi says the
stick-shift A4 will come, as is the S4-higher
performance based on this new generation. Expect wagon version, too. At a Media Preview
of the California Audi, I drove the Premium Plus and Prestige sedan,
both with all-wheel drive.
Exterior & StylingYou can
be easily mistook the latest A4 to its predecessor (2009-2016). Spacious car grille, LED front
light-framed and squinting back light is still here,
though their effects to tweak the Audi more
technical. the car also looks bigger, though it increased
to the wheelbase, width and overall length.
Audi wedge profile avoiding the
plunge-belt-line that characterizes so much of today's sedans,
luxury or not. Instead, the window A4 horizontal folds embraced that
runs seamlessly into the tent. These are all exercises restraint. Even
the S-line sporty appearance package, standard with a Premium
Plus and Prestige, dresses trims bumper in some mild ground effect which
remains in the minimalist aesthetic of the car.
How to DrivesThere are no
restrictions as in the A4 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, one
heck of a base machine is fine. Reset to 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of
torque (up 32 hp and 15 pound-feet at the top before
the 2.0-liter turbo), allowing a strong acceleration. Even
with three adults on board, our test car makes
short work of it runs uphill, with torque equal to satisfy a plain old A4 2.0-liter-it
just feels better.
The machine also flatter transmission revealed mediocrity,
which-outside the Sportmode – shows a subtle but often upshifts and kickdown stubborn resistance. Torque saves
the day; even at low rpm, A4 can tack on speed.
A4 is the pioneer of the
four-cylinder turbo engine, but competitors ranging from BMW 328i and Mercedes-Benz C300 with Lexus
IS 200t has caught on with the excellent turbo crawl of their
own. With this redesign, Audi is back with the
best of them, and maybe in the future.
Ditto for braking, where the
new A4 has been upsized an almost standard disc brake size S4 before. Gone is the
old A4 soft pedal; The new A4 has a firm, strongbrakes.
redesign brought some
improvements to the handling over of the old A4 craze for
body roll, with less lean and a little sacrifice in
the quality of ride-even with the suspension remains the
standard in Premium Plus car we drove. (A lowered sport suspension,
stick is optional, but Audi doesn't have the car with it is
possible to drive.) Optional Adaptive suspension, which I drove in A4 Prestige, quells the
lump and the boundaries of gestures in a way a little bit but
real versus setup anyway, and that quellsbody roll well
even in Comfort mode.
However, the handling is not what
you call pleasant directly. Lightened by about 65to 100 pounds versus 2016, depending
on the driveline, A4 feels nimble on winding roads,
but there is a little bit, obviously Biased understeer. grippy summer tires Hankook we test cars
' masked a lot of push, but it became clear on the
tight mountainswitchbacks. Drift tail, maneuver easily even
in the all-wheel drive version of the BMW 3 series and Cadillac ATS,
is all but impossible in the A4. Steering feedback at higher
speeds, especially in fashion sporty driving the A4, but
some drivers will find the car high steering assist at
low speeds-the characteristics of the many Audi-too buoyant.
ingredients InteriorCabin well,
although A4 still has some plastic lower-rent in the
area of standard-setting Mercedes-Benz C-Class dress up. However,
most of the interior surface in the A4 has a uniform finish,
and there were little touches-such as three dimensional creeping around certain
controls-which shows the attention to detail.
The cabin also showed attention
to practicality. Thin pillar of the whole window makes a
good visibility, and the front seats have plenty of legroom and a knees thanks
to a low center console that maintains high-adjustable armrest. the
back seat, meanwhile, feels really generous for this class. Headroom and legroom are
good, and chairs sit high enough off the floor a good thigh support. This
is a great improvement backseat 2016 A4.
I agree that the standard seats are too
flat and does not support, but Audi offers sports seats with
some much-needed bolstering that adds comfort without pinching. Eight-way power adjustment
and a standard leather seats-the last great to see,
considering most of the competitors start you with vinyl.
